A Global Positioning System allows the Physicians Ambulance Communication Center and managers to know the location of each vehicle at all times. With street level accuracy, we frequently even know which side of the street the vehicle is on. This accuracy means that there is one less variable taken out of an "estimated time of arrival". As an added level of safety and security, the software logs all activity for instantaneous or future review. Alerts are set for unsafe speeds, notifying management if such conditions exist.
In addition to speed, the software also logs all stops, ignition status, direction of travel, and most importantly service intervals. The safety of our crews and patients is of paramount concern to us, and the service interval features keeps us informed of routine vehicle service needs. In fact, as a vehicle approaches a needed service mileage, a page is sent to both the operations director and our service department.
